What to see / What to do

Situated in the wildest, most unspoilt part of the Seine Valley, Clairseine is within easy reach of numerous tourist and sporting activities.

Walks and hikes

on the banks of the Seine.

Directly accessible from the property, the path that runs alongside the Seine makes for lovely strolls along the river's banks. You'll discover the charming village houses, the well-tended banks, the secret life of the river's flora and fauna, and superb views of the Seine, its islands and hills. It's also the starting point for longer hikes to the hill of the two lovers and Connelles, on the other bank.

Château-Gaillard

Standing on a rocky spur overlooking one of the most beautiful meanders of the Seine, the fortress of Château Gaillard was built in 1189 by Richard the Lionheart, King of England and Duke of Normandy, to secure the border between his beautiful duchy and the kingdom of France. The proud fortress was taken in 1204 by King Philippe Auguste, who subsequently annexed Normandy to the kingdom of France. Today, the clash of arms is a distant memory, and the ruins of Château Gaillard are one of the most romantic sites in the Seine Valley. At its foot, the Petit-Andely offers a lovely riverside stroll.

Giverny Museum

In 1884, Claude Monet settled in the small village of Giverny. The leader of the Impressionist movement stayed until his death in 1926. The changing lights and landscapes of the Seine valley, its meadows, its bunches of trees and the flowers in his garden were a perpetual source of inspiration for the master. Today, the house and grounds of the Claude Monet Foundation are one of the most visited sites in France. A discovery to be combined with the Musée des Impressionismes.

Gothic churches, classic town houses and cobbled streets are the backdrop to a lively town full of fine stores and excellent restaurants. The Musée des Beaux Arts is one of the richest in France.
